He is a "self taught" carver and has assisted others in this art by teaching beginning and intermediate carving through Augustana College in Camrose, Alberta, for the Camrose Art Society, and through the Beaver County Adult Education program. Richard has participated in the three levels of international carving competition and has received awards at these levels. He has been a judge in one Canadian show.
Richard was selected as one of two "Featured Artists" in the Western Showcase Art Gallery, 2002.
